It seems that to judge a sequel is one of the more difficult aspects of criticism. In Branden Sanderson’s follow-up to The Way of Kings, he once again proves himself an expert world-builder and plot deviser. His characters become more and more nuanced, and this novel really seems to set the stage for some very interesting and complicated psychological turmoil to come. It is perhaps a tad slow on the front end, which is to be expected given the natural pause from one volume of a story to the next, but as the larger plot begins to unfold in earnest, it becomes difficult to put the book down at all. Sanderson does not disappoint in book two, in part because so far, the Stormlight Archive feels less like a series of 10 books, and more like a single book that was simply too many pages to publish together. While this story continues to reveal itself, I will continue to consume with enthusiasm.
9/10
