Oh 2024. My greatest fear (with regard to this blog) caught up with me this year—writing these reviews became enough of an obligation, a chore, that I stopped reading. The self-imposed expectation to write made reading scary, instead of exciting and fun, and I cut myself off at the knees instead of digging deeper into one of my greatest passions. Upon realizing how much I was avoiding starting new books, or sitting down to write, I decided that I needed to make a change. This is supposed to be fun! Not a job! I’m not making money on this! I’m still going to read and review books, and post those reviews on this blog, but rather than writing a full-length review for every book I read, I’m going to save those reviews for the books about which I really have something to say. For all the rest, I’ll be jotting down a couple thoughts and a rating, all of which I’ll compile into one end of year document, a catch-up of sorts. My hope is that taking this tack will jumpstart my reading again, so I don’t feel so hamstrung by literally my own idea (god that’s so dumb).
Regardless, my goal for this year is mostly the same as it is every year: read more, and read with intention. As always, send me your recs, send me your thoughts, I love love love to talk about literally anything but particularly books. I just started a new one recommended to me by a friend, and it’s weird and strange and so far I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I guess you’ll have to see what it is when I finish.
